This is the story of filmmaker Brian Harrison's childhood heroes: The Von Erich Brothers. It tells of the small Dallas promotion run by Fritz Von Erich in the 1980's that became the innovator of professional wrestling's worldwide exposure via television syndication.

With his three oldest sons as the franchise stars, WCCW was one of the most syndicated shows in the world, until a string of shocking tragedies drove the family and the promotion down a path no one could have imagined.  Today one Von Erich, Kevin, remains, his four younger brothers among the stars who found a tragic end in the downfall of World Class.

HEROES OF WORLD CLASS is a story of surviving unspeakable tragedy and a tribute to an unforgettable era.

I got this dvd as a part of a grab bag and watched this as the first part of the series and really enjoyed it. I just wanted some more stories about some of the other wrestlers from the orginization. But even with that little quibble it still is a must see.

Rating: - The Best Wrestling Documentary
Reviewer: Greg from Wrightsville, Pennsylvania
This documentary DVD by Brian Harrison will take the viewer back to the early 1980s on how World Class Championship Wrestling became the hottest wrestling promotion in the country. No sooner had WCCW risen to the top, unfortunate circumstances after the death of David Von Erich would send the promotion into a tailspin.

This documentary reviews footage of the angles of WCCW that took place in the early to mid 1980s with the Freebirds, Von Erichs, The Dynamic Duo, and Devestation Inc. with General Akbar. The DVD also takes a look back on the tragic deaths of the Von Erichs, Gino Hernandez, and Bruiser Brody. It also provides a look back on a Dallas landmark that is no more today.

Changes in the way professional wrestling did business in the 1980s is also discussed and why World Class Championship Wrestling became extinct with many of the other wrestling promotions around the country.

A fan of WCCW or not, this DVD is the best that I have ever seen and you'll gain a sense of appreciation of the era of old school wrestling. The picture quality is excellent in this documentary and Brian Harrison sits down with Bill Mercer, Gary Hart, David Manning, General Akbar, Kevin Von Erich, and others as they tell their side of the story of events that took place in World Class Championship Wrestling.

This DVD is one of those MUST SEE! DVDs. And I don't say that every day. If Kevin's tour of the burned out Sportatorium doesn't bring tears to your eyes, you're not human.

I grew up watching Sportatorium wrestling, WCCW and later GWF. To see that wrestling landmark in that condition and then gone completely was very sad.

The whole DVD was very well done and put together. I don't have enough time or space to say all of the good things I want to say about this DVD. Its worth TWICE the price they are charging. Its that good!

The film itself runs just over 2 1/2 hours and is very interesting. And the bonuses are fantastic, including David Von Erich's last match in the US before his trip to Japan dna his death.

Well done!!! I'd rate it more than 5 stars if I could.

This is the kind of DVD documentary Vince McMahon wishes he could put together.

I didn't know much about World Class Championship Wrestling prior to watching Heroes of World Class, other then it was the Von Erich's territory. After watching this documentary, I sure as hell came out of it with a greater understanding and appreciation for what Fritz and the Von Erich did for professional wrestling.

Brian Harrison has put together what I think to be perhaps the best wrestling documentary that I've ever seen, shattering Beyond the Mat and Wrestling with Shadows in my opinion.

It's obvious that Harrison is a fan because of his attention to detail and overall brilliance of this documentary. He has interviewed countless former stars, gave us a tremendous insight into how significant WCCW really was, and at times was gut wrenchingly emotional to watch.

As I said, I had not a clue, despite being a fan of old school wrestling, as to what WCCW was really about. As much as Vince McMahon may get alot of credit for what he has been able to do, I also think WCCW and their production people such as Micky Grant deserve a medal for services to wrestling. I had no idea how influential WCCW was, but by the end I realised just how amazing this territory was, if just for a few years.

Harrison takes us on a veritable rollercoaster ride of emotions, as the highs of World Class are discussed, with their innovations and incredible talent such as the Von Erich brothers and the countless stars who passed through. Then, we get into the tragedy of the Von Erich family, Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, etc; to the slow demise of the territory, only to be brought back up by Kevin Von Erich's amazing optimism for life.

I would highly recommend this documentary to absolutely any wrestling fan, even if like me, you were very unfamiliar with World Class. Even to new wrestling fans, to see how their production and innovations are used by Vince McMahon to this day. And how refreshing it was to not get a WWE spin on events, or being able to watch a DVD on the history of past superstars or territories without someone like a Steve Lombardi popping up. I'm just so glad that Harrison was able to use the footage necessary to put together such a great film before New York got a hold of it.

What a documentary! This is right up there with "smashing machine" as far as an up close and personal look at the world of pro wrestling or mma. I think for todays fans it's hard to beleive how big wccw and the Von Erichs were in the 80s. Any wrestling fan from today or yesteryear really need to check this dvd out. Whats really sad is unless you are a long time fan, with the sportatorium being gone and most of the wccw roster being retired or passing away, its almost like wccw was never there and this is a great way for more recent fans to see a real piece of pro wrestling history. (and for us older fans to relive some great memories!)

This is the real deal. I remember watching world class as a kid, and no wrestling promotion had you more excited to tune into next week. This DVD is better than most WWE DVD's, it don't have matches, but it does break down the total history. You may not like the price at first, but you will like the DVD if you like old school wrestling!

I remember catching some old replays of WCCW on a local TV station up in Milwaukee Wisconsin, sometimes the station had it on sometimes it didn't but I was familiar with the promotion and Von Erich family, great DVD, its great to get an unslanted view both ups and downs that sometimes you don't get on a WWE DVD. Get this DVD!

For the average wrestling fan today, the wrestling industry is or was consisted of the WWE, WCW, ECW, and TNA. If you are fortunate, some of them might even read about the AWA and how about this one, the National Wrestling Alliance. How far has our intellect gone? Unfortunately, one organization appears to be out of the conversation due to either a lack of knowledge, an unwillingness to learn, or the various tragedies that occurred. That organization was World Class Championship Wrestling. Thanks to fan and Director Brian Harrison, we all can recall and have a formal education to what this tremendous and inspiring wrestling company did for an industry that was on the brink of explosion during the early to mid-1980's. This DVD is more than simply a documentary on the company, it is an eye-opening presentation of how a wrestling company can succeed through the television medium and how fast it can fall when tragic circumstances occurr in combination with questionable business practices. I realize that this is a cliche that has become so familar, but this DVD is definately a must buy for all wrestling fans. Not mearly for entertainment purposes, but also to relive and learn a piece of wrestling history that has largely been forgotten for too long.

It is hard to come up with the right words for this dvd. Awesome is one that comes to mind!!!! Any wrestling fan growing up in the 80's should watch this. This is a must buy dvd. The ups and downs during this dvd is crazy. At the end of the dvd with Kevin at the old Sportatorium and then showing the land it used to stand on will leave a empty feeling your stomach. Someone needs to call the WWE office and tell Vinny Mac to watch this dvd!!! If you call yourself a wrestling fan watch this dvd!!!!!!!!!

This is a must-have. I'm a big fan of WCCW since I was little. From the Sportatorium to Reunion Arena to Texas Stadium to the Cotton Bowl, WCCW has its moments. It has its highs and lows. So, if you like WCCW, you need to pick this DVD up for keepsakes.

Awesome video! Everybody that ever caught a show of WCCW on ESPN, any fan of the Von Erichs, all 80's wrestling fanatics should see this. The footage of Kevin going through the Sportatorium (before it was demolished) for the last time was worth the price alone. Top notch production, great video footage quality, but the audio isn't quite as good as I would have liked. The story is what's most important. I'm sure I'll be watching this several more times.

This is probably the best DVD I've purchased from Highspots.com. There's really nothing more to say. Brian Harrison did a fantastic job with this project. This one is worth the price and more.
