Rating: - Just a Coliseum Video re-release
Reviewer: Sean from Independence, Kentucky
I have not seen this DVD, but from what I hear it is essentially (if not 100%) a re-release of the 1985 Coliseum Video tape of the same name. The matches are the same, even down to Lord Alfred Hayes as the host. The one exception that I see is Michael Cole & Tazz listed as commentators. This sadly makes the DVD less attractive as dubbed commentary is always less appealing than live commentary.

Still, I enjoyed the Andre tape and still watch it from time to time. Even though the 1985 version (while excellent for it's time) is no where near a complete look at Andre the Giant's career, it's still a nice compilation of matches and an enjoyable look at that stage of Andre's career.

well i thought that it defiently should of ben longer only 90 minutes this give the inpersonation that they were desperate for money and had to make a dvd quick there is no extras on the dvd there are a few good matches on the dvd but apart frm that not good

Andre's DVD was awesome and my favorite matches were the Boxing match at Roberto Clemente Coliseum and the $15,000 Dollar Body Slam Match in the first Wrestlemania.

Rating: - Mediocre Effort by WWE

This DVD could have been so much more than it is. When it was initially released in the mid 90's it might have stood alone, but this re-release is seriously lacking.
This skims the surface of Andre's career for about 3 1/2 years, August of 1981 to the 1st Wm in March of 1985. However, there was more WWF (at the time) should have included for the VHS release and should have included for this DVD. I will touch on that more in the pusses and minuses.
Plusses: This offers viewer, especially new ones, a look at Andre in arguably his prime. Andre looks downright spry in some of these matches. For those who have only seen the WM3 or later Andre, who at the time was a shell of his former self, a different view of the 8th wonder of the World.
matches:
w/JImmy Snuka vs. the Wild Samoans-This is a cool addition as it gives a glimpse at the legendary Wild Samoans, although they are past their primes here as well. Never-the-less, a very watchable match w/Snuka "playing Ricky Morton." and the Samoans double-teaming like mad. This is what tag teams are supposed to do.
vs. Patera-very watchable match from Patera who can't default to his basic power style given how much smaller he is than Andre. Finish sucks, but the match itself told a story & was quite entertaining.
Haircut Match-not much of a match, but it is historically signicant, and it was good to be included on this disc.
vs. Masked Superstar-Bill "Demolition Ax" Eadie in his other succesful gimmick has a nice little match with Andre that was my favorite of the disc.
Minuses: WWF/E should have drawn this disc out further to include Andre's heel turn, his WMIII match w/the Orange Goblin, and his subsequent title win over Hogan. w/o these this disc is seriously lacking.
Who in the blue hell thought Alfred hayes was a good choice to host this DVD. Hayes makes JBL look like Gordon Solie commentery. In other words, he sucks. Several bad matches are made worse thanks to "his lordship."
Another missing element for me was his feud w/Killer Khan & the broken ankle angle. This was major feud for Andre, and it should have been included. Also missing was anything relating to his feud w/Kamala.
They can have Cole & Tazz re-dub the commentaery for the Studd match, but that's all they can do to upgrade this disc?
Matches:
vs. Moondog Rex-sqaush match, pointless...they could have devoted time to more important aspects of Andre's career & character.
Handicap matches-they were both squashes, and they both had the same spots. Again, there were better uses of film.
Mixture of both:
vs. Monsoon (boxing match)-this is rare & unique, but that doesn't make it good. This match was very contrived, and certain spots looked silly. Andre had little hand speed even then, and it made the whole thing look ridiculously contrived.

Rating: - DVD is boring

I borrowed this dvd from a friend. I respect Andre but this dvd is down right boring. If you can find this used for less then $10 go ahead and buy it. Just to add to your collection.

Rating: - Enjoyable

All the matches are complete. Nothing spectacular about them, but they have a sense of nostalgia to them.
The 18 man battle royal was enjoyable, nice to see adrian adonis before the gimmick change.
They have a rare boxing match between andre & gorilla monsoon in roberto clemente stadium (baseball stadium)
They have the infamous haircut angle, which was redone exactly the same way 20 yrs later by angle & big show (cole even used "raping of his dignity" the exact same way vince did back then)
They have a hilarious clip of vince calling andre "yellow" and andre then getting mad and grabbing vince by his tie and threating his life (vince's reaction afterwards is hilarious)

All in all, a good dvd in my opinion to add to your collection and for 10 bucks you really can't go wrong.
