Tommy returned to his home territory with a list of accomplishments and a bad attitude. Jimmy Valiant, at the time, was one of the top good guys in the area. But when Jimmy missed out on becoming the first ever Memphis TV Champion, Valiant snapped. On that same episode Tommy Rich's mother made an appearence on Memphis TV to talk some sense in to her son.
