Bang Your Head! The real story of The Missing Link
Paperback: 300 pages
A much-loved character of U.S. and Canadian rope operas is revealed in this tale of the true-life events that led to the birth, life, and downfall of The Missing Link. The Link was a bizarre, seemingly primitive character, his body-builder's physique juxtaposed with the dress and manners of a silver screen caveman as he stalked the ring or bashed his head into objects. Dewey Robertson's performance was more than an act, however; it was also a manifestation of his inner demons. In the first part of his career, Robertson won the Canadian Heavyweight Championship belt, but it was only after his move to the U.S. that he transformed into one of wrestling's most popular goons. As the regional wrestling territories began to fold, his career crumbled and his physical and mental states disintegrated due to drug, alcohol, and steroid abuse. A year of homelessness and destitution marked the nadir of his life, but when Robertson returned to Canada for a long recovery he found that his fans had not forgotten him. Written with candor and the wisdom of experience, this account tells of struggles with substanceand with selfand of strength both in and out of the ring.

And in this corner, at 260 pounds, from Parts Unknown, its The Missing Link!

In the mid-80s, wrestling fans around the world were thrilled by those words as the bizarre and volatile Missing Link entered the ring. But then he disappeared as mysteriously as he appeared, and for more than a decade, fans were left wondering. Now the man behind the face-paint emerges to tell the real story. No, he wasnt a Stone Age throwback or a refugee from a freak show he was veteran ring hero Dewey Robertson, known to wrestling aficionados for his all-Canadian looks, physique, and mastery of a thousand holds.

Straight from the heart, Bang Your Head details Deweys story from the very beginning growing up in the wrestling mecca of Hamilton, ON; becoming one of the stalwarts of Torontos Maple Leaf Wrestling promotion; moving to the southern United States and becoming one of wrestlings most popular goons; losing his career and abusing alcohol and drugs; becoming destitute and homeless for nearly a year; returning to Canada to begin a long road to recovery; and finally emerging, victorious upon his return to the ring. The tremendous response showed that interest in the Link was as strong as ever.

Bang Your Head also gives fans an unprecedented look at the reality of a wrestlers life outside the ring: weeks on the road away from family and friends, the constant risk of injury, loneliness, financial instability, strains on family life from constantly moving to follow the work, and the easy access to women, alcohol, and drugs. Dewey is one of the few pros who will admit publicly that he used steroids, and graphically documents the damage they did to his health.
